What is spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is not about providing or receiving counseling, coaching, or advice. It is about actively listening to a person and helping that person see where the Holy Spirit is present and working in his/her life and how the Holy Spirit is calling the person to respond. Cardinal Mercier had a beautiful prayer that articulates the goal of spiritual direction:
O Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore you. Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I should do; give me your orders. I promise to submit myself to all that you desire of me and to accept all that you permit to happen to me. Let me only know your will. Amen.
Who offers it at Frassati?
Father David offers limited spiritual guidance within the Sacrament of Confession when asked and pending the number of penitents and time remaining before Masses. Outside of scheduled Confession times, parishioners can arrange a meeting with Fr. David by contacting his assistant, Tami Hinnerschitz: [email protected].
Additionally, both Jeff Vehige ([email protected]) and Tami Hinnerschitz ([email protected]) offer spiritual direction.
